Debbie's Garden
This Floridian homeowner had a high maintenance lawn (a strict HOA we were able to work with) and strongly desired to remove the chemicals and noisy machinery from her home. Previously, this landscape was nothing but a flat lawn.

Community Garden
Community garden in high-end residential neighborhood development, completed alongside Carolina Native Landscapes.
Skip's Yard
Skip is a retired biologist who wanted as much nature activity in his yard as we could create. This garden became a creative study in how to transform a suburban yard into an ecological "microrefugia" as Skip called it. What we created is an excellent example of how a persons yard can be home to an abundance of beneficial species... plants, pollinators, birds and microfauna.
Every step in the installation and design was aimed at maximizing the ecological health of the landscape while keeping the aesthetic value. The homeowner delights in continuing his biological studies in his own yard.
Backyard Pond and Patio
This client is a Floridian wildlife biologist who wanted to maximize aesthetic and ecological value of her small, suburban backyard. I created a wildlife pond and adjoined to it a patio with seating and a grill.
The pond features a micro-wetland for water filtration and a small waterfall. "Shoreline" area and a deep center creates opportunities for all stages of aquatic life cycles, evidenced by the spontaneous growth of native fish in the pond. The client reports low-maintenance and high wildlife use including rare bird species, amphibians, reptiles, bats (drinking from the pond) and visitations from owls and other large birds. The pond is situated outside of her home office window.
Front yard sustainability
This client wanted the front yard to be an expression of suburban sustainability. That means a combination of food production for people, pollinator and bird support, and aesthetic appeal. This front yard has several fruit trees, raised beds, native wildflowers and grasses and the soil was improved with 7 tons of recycled food waste compost.
Backyard Chickens
Because its fun, we offer backyard chickens. Here is a stylish coop set within a food garden and filled with a variety of adorable chicks. For the chicken run, we used bamboo from a neighbors yard (as requested) which we fired for preservation and lashed in semi-traditional style. The coop is our design and build and is part of a larger permaculture design.
